AccorInvest is a leading player in the hotel real estate sector with a focus on sustainable energy and water management in its hotels. In line with ESG objectives, AccorInvest continuously works on a future-oriented strategy that reduces the energy and water consumption of its hotels without compromising the guest experience.

Challenge: optimizing energy and water consumption

In 2023, AccorInvest introduced a renewed Energy, Water, and Carbon policy, aiming to optimize energy and water consumption in all hotels. As part of this strategy, sufficiency plans for both summer and winter periods were implemented, providing AccorInvest with tools to minimize waste. A key challenge was finding lesser-known technologies with a significant impact on costs and consumption, especially in the area of sanitary hot water production.

Solution: HW Bifipro®

After an energy study, AccorInvest discovered the HW Bifipro® system from Holland Water. The HW Bifipro® is an innovative water technology that uses copper and silver ionisation to combat Legionella, allowing the temperature in the circulation pipes to be lowered. This unique technology is recognized by the Flemish government, making it possible to reduce the hot water temperature below the usual standard of 55°C.

Before AccorInvest implemented the system, an extensive testing phase was carried out to assess the peak demands and the capacity of the existing buffer tanks. This ensured a smooth transition to the new technology.

Results

Thanks to the installation of HW Bifipro, AccorInvest was able to gradually lower the temperature of the hot water supply to less than 50°C, where previously a temperature of 60°C was maintained. This reduction led to significant savings in both energy consumption and costs, without compromising water quality.

Moreover, the collaboration with Holland Water provided AccorInvest with added value in terms of expertise and support. Through the collaboration with Holland Water and the installation of the HW Bifipro system, AccorInvest was able to achieve its sustainability goals and realize demonstrable savings in energy and water. This project contributes to a more environmentally conscious and cost-efficient business operation and aligns seamlessly with AccorInvest's ESG vision to create a more sustainable hotel network.
