It doesn't happen automatically
Clean and safe water is not a given. Water utilities use micro-membranes, flocculants, polyelectrolytes, dual-layer filters, ultraviolet light, iron chloride, activated carbon filters, aluminum salts, ultrafiltration, and so on. As a building manager, you are expected to achieve the same results with significantly fewer resources. That is a challenging task and requires smart solutions.
Conventional methods mainly incur high costs
The main resources you do have at your disposal are also hardly effective. Colonization by bacteria, such as Legionella, mainly occurs in the biofilm on the inner walls of cold water pipes. Thermal management of the hot water supply and flushing the pipes have little to no effect on the biofilm in cold water pipes and the associated bacterial contamination risks. That’s a shame, because these conventional methods are also extremely expensive and environmentally damaging due to the waste of energy and water.

Conventional 'one-size-fits-all' management should make way for refined, technology-driven management that offers concrete solutions for the specific Legionella risks and/or problems of your building. Every water installation is different, and that’s why modern water management starts with a careful risk analysis and a tailor-made management plan. Depending on the building and risk profile, you implement a high-quality management technique at the heart of your system, ranging from a gatekeeper system based on UV-C or UF, to a treatment technique such as copper and silver ionization. Once the water quality is stable, you can scale down conventional methods such as thermal management and flushing to a minimum, thereby saving significantly on energy and water.
